Van Rompuy: Taxation and energy to top EU summit agenda
FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Ahead of the EU summit in Brussels scheduled for Wednesday, the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy announced that the main topics on the meeting agenda would be energy and taxation.
In a letter directed to EU officials he emphasized that these are “two issues of crucial importance for Europe's economy and social cohesion.” He suggested that the talks on Wednesday should focus on the fight against fiscal fraud and tax evasion as well as on how to improve energy efficiency and develop indigenous resources.
Finally he indicated that "the discussions will also serve to prepare strong and coordinated EU positions in international fora such as the G8, the G20, and the OECD as well as in our relations with international partners."
