CBOE VIX rises to Dec 2011 levels

FXStreet (Mumbai) - The Chicago Board Options Exchange(CBOE) Volatility Index (VIX) rose sharply to a level last seen in December 2011.

The VIX is trading 23.30% higher at 28.10 levels, tracking the fall in the US Equity markets. The DJIA, the S&P futures, and the NASDAQ futures have shed 1% each. Meanwhile, the major European indices are down by almost 2%. Usually, the fall in the equity markets is accompanied by a surge in the volatility leading to a sharp rise in the option prices.

VIX Technical levels

VIX has an immediate support of 24.64 levels, below which the index can fall to 21.75 levels. On the upside, the index has a resistance of 28.92.

USD/CAD turns negative after hitting 5-year peak
