US CPI declined 0.1% year-on-year in March

FXStreet (Mumbai) - As per the data released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday, the CPI declined 0.1% on year in March, beating the estimate of 0.00%. The inflation rate in February was 0.00%.

Month-on-month, CPI increased 0.2% in March on a seasonally adjusted basis as expected. CPI was 0.2% in February. Core CPI came in line with estimates at 0.2%. The annualised decline was mainly due to the energy index, which fell 18.3% over the span, more than offsetting increases in the indexes for food (up 2.3%) and all items less food and energy (up 1.8%).
