‘It is too early talk about’ tapering – ECB’s Jazbec
FXStreet (Mumbai) - The European Central Bank's (ECB) stimulus has clearly been working, but it is way too soon to contemplate when to scale it back, the bank's Governing Council member Bostjan Jazbec said late on Tuesday.
Key quotes:
“It’s clear our policies are working,”
“There is a revival of inflation.”
“Our mandate is to deliver price stability,”
“If we reach this mandate, there will be at least a decision to be made. But it is too early talk about this.”
Speaking further, he warned that the measures implemented by the central bank alone won’t be sufficient to ensure a sustained recovery in the currency bloc.
“The central banks are not the only game in town, there are a lot of other policies that should be complementing what we’re doing.”
